When to do this?

It may be necessary to update your copy of SPSS with an authorization code if:

- your license expires and you have purchased a new Grad Pack for the same version (eg v25)

- you need to ‘upgrade’ for example from SPSS Base v25 to SPSS Standard v25

- the authorization code wasn’t entered during initial installation
- updates to your computer require the authorization code to be entered again

How to do it:

1. Check that your authorization code is for the same version of SPSS as you have installed. For example, if your authorization code is for SPSS Statistics 25, you need to have SPSS 25 installed. It doesn’t matter whether you have previously had Base, Standard or Premium, but the version number needs to be the same.

2. Go to the Start menu of Windows. This is the Windows icon, usually in the bottom left of your screen

3. Go to your Programs list

- in Windows 7 - called ‘All Programs’
- in Windows 8 - click the down arrow to go to ‘All Apps’ then scroll across to the right
- in Windows 10 - the list of Programs should be in the Start menu, or click ‘All Apps’

4. Scroll through the alphabetical list to find ‘IBM SPSS Statistics <ver> License Authorization Wizard’, where <ver> is your version number. It may be in a folder called IBM SPSS Statistics.

5. Run the License Authorization Wizard by RIGHT clicking on it and choosing “Run As Administrator” (in some versions of Windows, you need to right click, choose “More” then choose “Run As Administrator”). When the wizard starts, it may come up with your existing license information. Sometimes, it may say “No Licenses Found”. Just press ‘Next’
