  • How do I install or uninstall Voxler?

Installing Voxler requires that you be logged into an account that has Administrator rights. Golden Software does not recommend installing Voxler 4 over any previous version of Voxler. Please ensure that you install Voxler 4 into a new directory, which is what will happen by default. Voxler 4 can co-exist with older versions as long as they are in different directories.

To begin the installation, either insert the CD into the CD-ROM drive, or double-click on the downloaded EXE file to run it. See below for details of each method.

Installing Strater on a Local Drive from CD:

    1. Insert the CD-ROM in the CD-ROM drive. The Setup program automatically begins on most computers.

2.Choose the "Install Voxler" option from the screen and setup will begin.

If the Setup program does not automatically start, double-click on the My Computer icon on your desktop. Open the CD-ROM drive which contains the Strater disk by double-clicking on the CD-ROM icon. From the CD-ROM folder find and double-click on Autorun.exe to launch Strater's Setup program. Select "Install Voxler" and setup will begin.

Installing Strater on a Local Drive Using a Downloaded EXE:

    1. Double-click on the My Computer icon on your desktop and navigate to the folder containing the downloaded file.

    2. Double-click the downloaded file to begin the installation process.

  • What are the system requirements?

Windows XP, Vista, or 7 operating system or higher

512 MB minimum RAM for simple data, 1 GB RAM recommended

100 MB of hard disk space

Video card with 1024x768x16-bit color minimum resolution

Video driver with openGL acceleration, highly recommended

  • Where can I find my serial number?

The serial number is on the registration card attached to the CD sleeve, or in the download instructions you received when you ordered the software.  After you install Voxler and run it for the first time, you can also find your serial number by opening the software and going to Help | About Voxler. The About Voxler dialog box will show the serial number.

  • Why does Voxler seem to be running slow?

Make sure your OpenGL driver is hardware accelerated. The drivers that come from Microsoft are usually NOT accelerated, while the drivers that come from the hardware manufacturer usually ARE accelerated.

    - Make sure hardware acceleration is enabled in Files | Preferences | Enable Hardware Acceleration. Note that you must restart Voxler for this setting to take effect.

    - Some of the higher quality transparency modes can greatly slow down rendering. Make sure View | Transparency Type is set to Blend for best performance.

    - If there is a lot of hard disk activity and everything seems extremely slow, then your computer may have run out of memory and is trying to page to disk. Voxler requires all network data and graphics output to reside in memory. Several steps can be taken to reduce the amount of required memory:

    - Use the Subset module to extract a portion of large lattices, save the extracted data to disk, and use the saved file in future runs.

    - Use the ChangeType module to change the data type of large datasets to one that requires fewer bytes.

    - Avoid graphics that require large amounts of memory like Heightfields.
